Bees need our help. Their numbers are in decline due to disease, pesticide use and loss of habitat. At the National Beekeeping Centre Wales in Conwy, we firmly believe it is possible to reverse this trend and make the world a better place for honey bees. Find out how you can help the bees too by becoming more bee-friendly in your home and garden, how to become a beekeeper or how you can help us to help the bees.
Restrictions due to coronavirus / COVID-19, July / August 2020.
To our customers, supporters and volunteers. We sincerely regret having had to go into shut-down mode as a result of the coronavirus emergency.
This has resulted in the closure of the Visitor Centre at Bodnant Welsh Food, the cancellation of our planned beekeeping courses in May, June and September and a hold on the availability of beekeeping equipment from the apiary. Talks to community groups and schools and attendance at fairs and shows have been cancelled for the remainder of 2020.
The visitor centre will not re-open as it was. It is still to be worked out what the format will be. Honey sales have transferred to the farm shop. As for visits to the apiary, we’re afraid we will have to see a significant relaxation in relation to Covid19 restrictions before these could start again in 2021.
See our Courses page for provisional dates for our courses for 2021.
We’re very sorry as many of you will be disappointed, but as soon as we are able, we’ll get back up and running again.
The Adopt a Hive project has proved very popular and we need to limit numbers. We are a Community Interest Company run by volunteers and have limited resource to manage a bigger project. New members will receive their welcome packs and hive narratives throughout the year and all members will continue to receive updates as usual throughout 2020. Thank you so much for your support.
It is with regret that we have no choice, once again, but to cancel / re-schedule the courses provisionally planned for May and June and early July. We are still not in a good place yet due to the Corona Virus restrictions.
After the announcement, a couple of days ago for England, it seems that, with a fair wind, from the 21st of June restrictions may well be lifted. We still don’t know the situation for Wales but are hopeful. So, we have taken the view that we will offer dates during mid-July, August, and early September on a provisional basis. I will be circulating the dates in the next week to all those who want to enrol along with the conditions which we think will apply.
We will re-schedule places based on existing bookings. So, for example, those listed on our first weekend course will be offered places on the first rescheduled weekend course. If the new dates do not work for you, then we will try to accommodate what does. We will endeavour to place all those with bookings and those on the waiting lists.
We are deeply sorry to mess people about, but we will do our best to get you onto one of our courses this summer.
Thank you for your forbearance and support.
The Courses Team.
